It was presented to the public at the Leipzig Spring Fair in 1949 and built from mid-1950 to 1956 at the VEB Kraftfahrzeugwerk HORCH in Zwickau, initially as a platform truck. The H3A was a completely new development in its design as a long-hood truck with a diesel engine.
