The universal spindle lathe SU 1500 Variant is a numerically controlled machine designed for roughing and finishing shaft and flange components, thread cutting, drilling, turning of tapers, and various rotationally symmetric surfaces. The machine features a rigid horizontal bed; the bed guideways are hardened and ground, while the corresponding surfaces on the saddle are coated with Turcite B. The SU 1500 Variant lathe is a machine with automatic cycle control, equipped with a Heidenhain control system.

The longitudinal feed drive – Z axis – is via a servo drive directly to the ball screw. The cross feed drive – X axis – is also via a servo drive directly to the ball screw. The position is measured on both axes by rotary encoders mounted on the servomotors. The machine can be operated either manually or in automatic control mode.
