Face Milling – Single Part Process – Continuous Method:
- Workpiece and tool (usually Spiron) rotate simultaneously, with all teeth being generated at once in a single operation.
- Cutter head has several groups of cutters (not arranged in a circle).
- Tooth with parallel height.
- Conical tooth top surface.
Single Part Method:
- Workpiece remains stationary, and the tool (usually Arcon) rotates and cuts one tooth at a time by plunging in.
- Once a tooth is cut, the tool retracts from the tooth, the workpiece indexes by one tooth width, and the next tooth is cut, repeating until all teeth are finished.
- Cutter head has all cutters arranged on a circular path.
- Conical tooth height.
- Parallel tooth top surface.
The C28 is capable of both, gear and pinion machining.
For the single part method, the C28 must be “prepared”, which requires a direct measuring system, a workpiece axis part gearbox brake, and the license file for single part machining.
